White Crest Beach

Wellfleet, Massachusetts · Atlantic Ocean

Cape Cod's premier Atlantic surf beach

Wellfleet's premier surf beach. The biggest and most consistent waves on Cape Cod draw surfers from all over New England. Not for casual swimmers — this is serious ocean.

White Crest is the surf beach of Cape Cod — the most consistent, hollowest, and best-quality wave on the peninsula and the gathering spot for the Outer Cape surf community. The lot at the cliff-top is part working surf check, part social hub; the beach below has a permanent surf lineup most summer mornings before the wind gets onshore. Lifeguards run the central swim zone, but the south end is the unofficial surf section and on a clean offshore wind it can be one of the best beach breaks in the Northeast. The cliff is sixty feet high, sand-faced, and actively eroding — chunks calve off every winter. There's a wooden stair down, a small bathhouse, and that's about it for amenities. Park early or you won't park at all: the lot is Wellfleet-sticker or daily fee, holds maybe ninety cars, and is full by 8am on a good summer surf morning. Walk a quarter mile north for a quieter stretch of beach and the same long view of dune cliff and Atlantic.
